Cartoon Assignment

1.  http://www.cagle.com/2013/10/tea-party-boulder-pushers/

  • Why is the top of the white house the boulder-like thing that has fallen?
  • Why's the elephant saying "bubba"?
  • Why's the cop's shirt sleeve say "voters"?
  • What's the guys shirt mean and why does it have a snake on it?
  • What does he mean by "Whoo-wee! We're heroes, man! Gimme five!!"?

  • Let your eyes go to where the want to go/what stands out the most.
  • Let the movement naturally flow after the main focus.
  • Figure out who it's meant to be pointed towards most.
  • Try to understand what it means.
  • Scan the poster/cartoon/picture and look for recognizable symbols.
  • Look for small details that'll make it humorous.

  • Symbolism; Shows the problem overall.
  • Exaggeration; Shows how big the problem is.
  • Labeling; Clears the picture up for the viewers.
  • Analogy; The entire picture, pretty much. The meaning of the entire picture.
  • Irony; Typically the quote/saying at the bottom. It helps you understand better.
